A list of Websites with Japanese news in English.
Many English learners are good at listening but not so good at reading. For example, this can be seen in the average TOEIC test score, which is lower than the average score of the listening part in almost every test.
To improve your English reading ability, one of the most important points is to read a variety of texts to get rid of your “long sentence allergy” and to psychologically “get used to it”. However, even if you read foreign news sites at random, the content itself may not be clear to you, and you may find it difficult to continue reading.
So this time, we will introduce some free websites for intermediate English learners to read Japanese news in English. Although they are written in English, the content is familiar to intermediate English learners because it is about Japanese events, so please check them out.

【Important】Points and methods to use to improve Reading Skills

All of the sites are about Japan, so even if you don’t completely understand the contents, you can read them while guessing to some extent. However, just reading Japanese news in English vaguely will not be effective in improving your reading skills, so try to read articles in the following way.
- Read to the end without stopping at the beginning (do not dwell on the parts you do not understand).
- Check if you can give your own summary of the article (to check your understanding)
- For the second time, read carefully, check and write down English words, phrases, grammar, etc that you do not know. (identify learning points)
- Read the article as many times as possible after the third reading until you can read it smoothly (to get a sense of reading English and to consolidate the learning points you have identified).
- If you have time, write an English summary of the article (this is also good for studying writing).
- Repeat reading an article after a week or so to see if you can read it correctly ((by repeating it over a longer period of time, the learning points will become more firmly fixed in your brain).
As I mentioned at the beginning of this article, to improve your reading ability, you need to eliminate your “long sentence allergy” by reading a variety of sentences, and psychologically “get used to it”.
If your reading skill improves, you will be able to enjoy reading English, and it will become a hobby for you. Once you get used to it, you can try reading English novels to expand your world.
If you are not good at reading, why don’t you choose some of the websites introduced here and make it a habit to read?
